5 v 1 1 0 N ov 1 99 9 Relaxation of the cosmological constant at inflation ?

چکیده
We suggest that the cosmological constant has been relaxed to its present, very small value during the inflationary stage of the evolution of the Universe. This requires relatively low scale, very long duration and unconven-tional source of inflation. We present a concrete mechanism of the cosmolog-ical constant relaxation at the inflationary epoch.

A multidimensional cosmological model with space-time consisting of n (n ≥ 2) Einstein spaces M i is investigated in the presence of a cosmological constant Λ and m (m ≥ 1) homogeneous minimally coupled scalar fields as a matter source. Classes of the models integrable at classical as well as quantum levels are found. These classes are equivalent to each other. Quantum wormhole solutions are ob...

An alternative to a cosmological constant is quintessence, defined as a slowlyvarying scalar field potential V (φ). If quintessence is observationally significant, an epoch of inflation is beginning at the present epoch, with φ the slowly-rolling inflaton field. In contrast with ordinary inflation, quintessence seems to require extreme fine tuning of the potential V (φ). The degree of fine-tuni...

We find monopole solutions for a spontaneously broken SU (2)-Higgs system coupled to gravity in asymptotically anti-de Siter space. We present new analytic and numerical results discussing, in particular, how the gravitational instability of self-gravitating monopoles depends on the value of the cosmological constant.

Eternally inflating universes can contain thermalized regions with different values of the cosmological parameters. In particular, the spectra of density fluctuations should be different, because of the different realizations of quantum fluctuations of the inflaton field. I discuss a general method for calculating probability distributions for such variable parameters and analyze the density fl...
